Mixit Pro 2.0

AkzoNobel’s Automotive and Aerospace Coatings (A&AC) has released Mixit Pro 2.0, a major upgrade of its color retrieval system. Taking advantage of our proprietary patented color digitization technology, Mixit Pro 2.0 provides “color on display” (CoD) to assist users with color selection. It is, literally and figuratively, an example of how A&AC is putting colors on display.

Mixit Pro 2.0, with the new CoD feature, is now also capable of showing the color chips in a flop face view and simulating spotlight effect on the screen. The on-screen color chips are reproduced with a very high degree of accuracy because AkzoNobel is now making use of its AM6i color measurement instrument, a spectrophotometer that measures colors from six separate angles and captures the subtleties of coatings effects like sparkle, pearlescence and metallic coarseness. This makes the on-screen color chips more accurate than anything else now in the market.

“Mixit Pro 2.0 is a true reflection of our commitment to ‘getting color right’,” says Ben Zweers, A&AC Director Color Marketing. “What we are showing on screen is not just a photograph of a painted surface, but an actual digital representation of the complex blend of colors that are integral to the coating when it is applied to a vehicle. That’s something no one else in the industry has done to date.”

Mixit Pro 2.0 adds a number of other important features to what is already the industry standard for color retrieval systems. With the new version, it is possible to directly view and mix the advised color primer for Autowave MM when searching for the main color, and then mix the main color without the need for a new search. Users can now export all relevant data on mixes via a “.csv” file for use with third party software (for reporting and inventory control, for example), and it is now possible to see an optimization on screen and then make a comparison between the optimized formula and the standard formula. Our ongoing commitment to improving MixitPro for our customers will continue.

The rollout of Mixit Pro 2.0 has now begun in the US, EMEA, and Australia. The product will be available globally by March 2012.
