Based in Washington, D.C., the AIA has been the leading professional membership association for licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners since 1857.

With nearly 300 state and local chapters, the AIA serves as the voice of the architecture profession and the resource for their members in service to society. The AIA carries out their goals through advocacy, information, and community.

Each year the AIA sponsors hundreds of continuing education experiences to help architects maintain their licensure. They also set the industry standard in contract documents with more than 100 forms and contracts used in the design and construction industry. In addition to providing resources for emerging architecture professionals, the AIA also conducts market research and provides analysis of the economic factors that affect the business of architecture.

One of the AIA's major yearly events is the annual AIA National Convention and Design Exposition. At the AIA Expo there are continuing education programs, tours and special events, as well as a very large trade show with leading-edge companies exhibiting their products and services. It offers a great opportunity to catch up with the latest trends and see what's new in the architectural community.
