Community Program
How can a big, global organization make a difference to a small, local community?
AkzoNobel may be a huge organization – but we’re still made up of people. And many of them want to do more to make a difference to the world around us. That’s why we started the AkzoNobel Community Program: to encourage employees to get involved in their local areas, and give them what they need to do it.
We’re as committed to our communities as we are to our customers, shareholders and employees. That’s why we recently launched a new worldwide initiative called the AkzoNobel Community Program. It brings together motivated employees from all over the world and gives them the means to make a real difference.
So far, over 4,000 volunteers from 48 countries have worked on over 800 projects – from bringing color to the lives of lonely elderly in South Korea to providing a safe haven for abused and neglected children in the USA.
Every year we hold a competition to find the best contribution. The winner in 2008 was a team from our Decorative Paints business in Ho Chi Minh City with their "Clean Water means healthy pupils" project. They helped provide facilities and raise awareness about the importance of clean water with the children of 22 primary schools in Central Vietnam.
