Colloidal silica can improve the function of some water borne, clear wood coatings. Through the formation of a silica skeleton, mechanical properties can be enhanced to get a harder, more durable coating while improving the anti-blocking properties.
Not only does the coatings have these improved physical properties, it looks better due to enhanced wetting properties of the coating that improve adhesion as well as penetration. This penetration helps improves the anfeurung - giving the waterborne coating that "solvent borne look".
