Anti blocking
Stick free coatings
Anti-blocking is the term used for a non-stick interaction between two surfaces. Coated materials, especially recently coated materials, can sometimes stick when they are pressed together. When separated, the coating can potentially get damaged.
Colloidal silica particles can be considered to be small “glass particles” with a very good temperature resistance. Even under high temperature, the particles stay discrete and do not fuse (SiO2 has melting point of about 1650ºC). Because colloidal silica particles are normally present at the surface of coating during drying, these silica particles will also bind water and thereby reduce tackiness. Both these functions acting together make the surface of the coating more block resistant during drying.
Typical applications are used in paint, OPP film and transformer steel coatings.
