Eco-profiles
for a sustainable future
As part of our sustainability work, we have carried out Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of our products purified CMC, technical CMC and EHEC. The study resulted in eco-profiles (sometimes also called eco-footprints). The LCA has been conducted in the same way as demanded for a certified environmental product declaration, EPD (see www.environdec.com). We have also chosen the EPD format when documenting our eco-profiles.
The eco-profiles show the environmental loads and amounts associated with the production of 1 ton product from cradle to gate. This means that extraction of natural resources, refining of natural resources into raw materials, production of energy (electricity and heat), transportation (between all processes in the system studied) and, finally manufacturing in our own plant is all included. Examples of environmental loads are:
use of crude oil and wood
emissions of carbon dioxide to air
emissions of BOD (biological oxygen demand) to water
generation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
The eco-profiles also show the carbon footprint (synonymous to global warming potential and climate declaration) of the product, cradle to gate. The assessed contribution to some other important environmental impacts (e.g. acidification and eutrophication) is also presented.
