Eka Chemicals actively supports the principles of Responsible Care, the international chemical industry program to improve safety, health and the environment.

Our ongoing improvement program has also been enhanced by employee involvement. We have taken steady steps towards meeting challenging yet achievable targets. Management systems for safety at work and protection of the external environment are in place at all Eka Chemicals' factories. We are committed to continue being a respected and responsible member of the communities and contexts in which we operate.

Environmental impact
Eka's production processes have minor impact on the environment, but are rigorously monitored by indicators that quantify emissions in the atmosphere and to water together with waste deposits. Eka has also made significant steps toward establishing the carbon footprint for our sodium chlorate production and improved the evaluation of eco-premium products. Each Eka site should annually establish a plan to improve environmental performance compared to the previous year. See also Sustainability.

Employee health and safety
The health and safety of our people are crucial to us. Eka has a zero target for injuries at work. A driving factor in significantly reducing injury rates is a comprehensive Behavior-Based Safety program that was introduced in 2006. This program is now in place at all Eka sites and should be continuously developed together with extensive analysis on accidents that despite all occurs. Plants that have been injury-free for the past 12 months will be rewarded with the new, prestigious Eka Chemicals Zero Injury Award.
