Expancel microspheres can give your thermoset product new interesting properties. For many years Expancel has been used in common thermosetting polymers like unsaturated polyesters, polyurethanes, phenolics and epoxies to reduce weight, improve chock resistance, mechanical properties and workability.

Unsaturated polyesters
The most common use of Expancel microspheres in unsaturated polyesters are in body fillers and cultured marble. In these applications we recommend the use of pre-expanded microspheres, Expancel DE.

Polyurethanes
Expancel microspheres can be used in many types of polyurethanes such as rigid foams, microcellular foams, coatings, adhesives and sealants. The closed cells provided by the microspheres give a very uniform foam structure compared to other foaming techniques. A common application is the production of model making compound. Other benefits are improved insulation, reduced density and raw material cost.
