Underbody coatings and sealants

Expandable Expancel DU as well as pre-expanded Expancel DE is used as additives in plastisols for underbody coatings and sealants. The purpose is to reduce the weight and maintain or improve the stone chip resistance of the coating.  This comes with the elastic and compressible behavior of the thermoplastic microspheres. The low moisture and water absorption of the microspheres contribute to a good protection and a good adhesion to the steel substrate.

With Expancel DU an expandable sealant is achieved to fill cavities, reduce vibrations and improve sound insulation. 

Expancel microspheres are also used in waterborne systems for better protection of surfaces and improving insulation. The extremely low density of Expancel guarantees a low density and weight saving of the coating even at very low addition. This is important in the automotive industry.
