Functional Chemicals Sulfur Derivatives group consists of Sulfur Products and Polysulfide.

Sulfur Products consists of a ‘tree’ of products built around the manufacture of Carbon Disulfide or CS². Products include carbon disulfide, (CS²), sodium hydrosulfide (NaSH), sulfur chloride and sulfuric acid. Sulfur Products are used in numerous applications in the chemical, textile, photo, rubber, mining, agriculture, paper, construction and cosmetic industries.

AkzoNobel markets carbon disulfide, thiocyanates, sulfuric acid, sulfur chloride and sodium hydrosulfide. Based on our experiences and high technology standards, AkzoNobel holds a world wide leading position in Carbon Disulfide and Inorganic Thiocyanates.

Polysulfide is a semi-finished product used in sealants for insulating glass and in the aircraft and construction industries. Thioplast®, a liquid polysulfide polymer, is a key ingredient in the manufacturing of rubber-like sealants that show excellent resistance to weathering, water, oils, fats, fuels and numerous chemicals and solvents. Thioplast is therefore ideally suited for the production of sealing compounds and protective coatings for a variety of applications in the construction, aircraft and marine industry. Thioplast sealants are mainly used in the manufacture of insulating glass.
