AkzoNobel’s Carbon Policy

Targets and Ambitions

Industrial Chemicals has been measuring the cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of all our products since 2009 and update these measurements every year. The 2009 footprint is the benchmark against which future targets will be measured:

  • By 2015, we will reduce our cradle-to-gate carbon footprint by 15% per metric ton of product compared to 2009.

  • Even though our business continues to grow, we aim to cap absolute greenhouse gas emissions at 2009 levels. This means that organic growth will have to offset by energy efficiency and fuel mix improvements. However, any growth due to acquisition will be added to the 2009 base line.

Further ambitions:

  • We also continue to drive improvement in carbon management through continuous innovation. This will allow us to reduce our cradle-to-gate carbon footprint by 20-25 % per ton of product by 2020, compared to the 2009 base line (again without acquisitions).

  • We aim to provide carbon-efficient solutions to customers and to contribute to AkzoNobel´s overall objective of 30% annual sales from eco-premium solutions by 2015.
