Protecting resources

Care for the environment is crucial for the success of our company and is one of the foundations on which our license to operate is built. We need sustainable operations in order to meet our needs today, whilst protecting resources for future generations. To ensure we can effectively manage this process, we have put in place cutting-edge management systems. At our sites, we use risk-based operational management systems which comply with the Responsible Care® principles. Our systems are fully compliant with international standards such as SO-9000, ISO-14001, RC-14001 and OHSAS-18001.

In order to ramp up our environmental performance, Industrial Chemicals is currently focusing on:

  • Optimizing energy consumption, and reducing steam consumption and waste levels. Projects have been initiated in 2010.

  • Phasing out the two remaining mercury-based chlorine production plants in the coming three to five years.

  • Improving our fresh water management. It is our goal that by the end of 2015 all the fresh water we use will be sustainable.
