AkzoNobel, the world’s largest paints and Coatings Company has supplied its protective coatings to the Buddh International Circuit, India’s first-ever Formula-1tm Grand Prix circuit, where the upcoming Formula-1tm race will be held on October 30th, 2011.
Buddh International Circuit , originally known as Jaypee International Race Circuit in Greater Noida, has been designed by globally renowned German architect Hermann Tilke. The track spanning ~5.5 km in length has been designed as one of the fastest and most exciting circuits in the world. The Buddh International Circuit will now be the second-fastest* on the calendar after Monza F1tm circuit in Italy.
Protective Coatings from AkzoNobel’s globally acclaimed International® Paintbusiness have been chosen to paint the steel structure covering the ‘Grand Stand’ with a total surface area of 30,000 sq. metres and steel tonnage of 1,200 tonnes.
Talking about this, Mr B Ramakrishnan, Managing Director, Akzo Nobel Coatings India Pvt Ltd, says, “With a wealth of experience in offering technological expertise and innovative products to India’s infrastructure industry, International® Protective Coatings sustained this commitment and has supplied high performance coatings to various sporting venue projects in India. We are pleased to have been chosen to deliver our high performance coatings to the Buddh International Circuit, which requires durability to ensure the structural steel has a longer life protection and requires less maintenance.”
AkzoNobel’s expertise in supplying coatings for Formula-1 circuits is reinforced by a world-class track record that includes the Shanghai International Circuit and the Yas Circuit, Abu Dhabi.
With a global presence and an excellent track record in specifying and supplying to sporting venues, International® Paint has provided coatings for world-famous events, including the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
AkzoNobel in India has provided coatings solutions to many prestigious stadia projects such as the 2010 Commonwealth Games Stadia in Delhi; the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi; and the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, to name a few.
AkzoNobel’s association with Formula-1tm further extends to its partnership with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula-1tm team. AkzoNobel is the official supplier of paint solutions to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1tm team and is working closely to deliver innovative products to meet their strict performance requirements. When performance is matched against aesthetics, with sustainability as the driving force behind, then the preferred coating for sporting arenas remains AkzoNobel.
