Helping to combat climate change

Climate change has become a major concern for world governments and industry. To fight this global threat, we monitor, measure and study our CO2 emissions. And then we do whatever we can to reduce them.

We’ve been reporting on direct CO2 emissions since 2005, in accordance with the greenhouse gas protocol. We measure CO2 from our industrial activities (process- and combustion-related) and report on the direct, indirect and total CO2 emissions. By using and analyzing the results, we’ll expand the scope of our CO2 reporting from 2008.

In 2007, we changed the environmental accounting of our non-consolidated Combined Heat and Power plants to bring it in line with our financial reporting. To do this, we took our carbon inventory and omitted those carbon emissions associated with power and steam sold to third parties. This means we can focus more strongly on the carbon-intensity and energy-efficiency of our own chemicals and coatings operations.
