100% solvent-free polymeric systems for decorative paints

To meet the challenge of developing the highest-performing, most environmentally friendly decorative coatings available, we are looking to develop paints that are 100 percent solvent-free. And accordingly, we are currently inviting proposals for solvent-free liquid oligomeric or polymeric systems that cure to durable solid coatings. At ambient temperatures for the delivery of these coatings, the kinds of systems we are interested in will be liquid, and they will maintain their liquid character throughout the delivery phase, but when exposed to a triggering agent such as light or air they will cure to highly durable, hydrophobic solids that provide total protection for the painted surface.

We are looking for systems that require no liquid solvent of any sort – organic or aqueous. The successful system should have a viscosity of less than 20 Poise at room temperature, mechanical strength at least equivalent to existing solvent-borne coatings (10 N mm2 after curing), and ideally, it should be capable of carrying additional inert materials. In addition, it must remain free-flowing in storage until exposed to the triggering stimulus. Finally, we need a system which allows us to control the curing time so that it can be effectively applied to a wide range of surfaces and substrates.
