Project Green

Putting nature in the forefront

We realise the adverse impact many of our manufacturing businesses have on the environment and wish to alleviate the burden we place on nature as much as possible. For this reason, in 1992 we launched  “Project Green.”  This project was a tree plantation drive launched by our Soda Ash business over a decade ago. Its primary objective was to improve the appearance, functionality and environmental impact of the barren lime-beds that lie over a vast area around our Soda Ash estate. These dried up lime-beds comprise of rock hard, solidified lime waste, and are a by-product of the manufacture of Soda Ash.

This project continues to date and so far over 320,000 saplings have been planted throughout the area, out of which 269,000 trees are thriving on an approximate area of 41.3 acres. The plant survival rate is 84%. Out of the eight filled lime beds, we have transformed seven into successful parts of Project Green. The area was transformed into green land by digging trenches, and these trenches were filled in with good quality soil. A water circuit was laid for irrigation as well.
