REACH
Protecting people and the environment
We fully support REACH, the pan-European legislation for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals. The aim of REACH is to protect people’s health and the environment through a risk assessment of chemicals produced or imported, and used in the European Community.
We have been actively engaged in the REACH process even before passage by the European Parliament in June 2007. Through our active participation in industry groups, such as CEFIC, the European chemical industry’s trade organization, we are well positioned to provide input to the key REACH stakeholders that we trust will make REACH a workable regulation for all involved.
We see REACH not as a threat but as a business opportunity. In fact the REACH legislation fits well with our Product Stewardship commitment and our support for the Responsible Care® initiative of the chemical industry. We support sustainability and chemicals management through integration of outstanding business principles at all levels. We are committed to ensuring that our High Polymers (HP) and Cross-linking Peroxides, Thermoset Chemicals and Polymer Additives (XTP) businesses implement REACH in the most successful manner possible, to the long-term benefit of our company, our customers and our suppliers.
In keeping with our "customer first" attitude, our objective is to be recognized by our customers and suppliers as a trusted REACH partner and as a valuable resource for REACH practices.
Pre-registration of chemical substances
We completed the pre-registration of all relevant chemical substances in the products which we supply to the EU market well in advance of the December 1, 2008 deadline. Following the recommendation of CEFIC, our policy is not to provide the pre-registration number(s) for the products we supply. We have filed all of the appropriate pre-registrations with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and are able to continue serving you with our full product portfolio.
Please contact us if you have any questions concerning AkzoNobel and REACH.
