Spreading or spraying

 

Our de-icing products are road salt and brine.  

In the past salt was spread on roads once they were already icy. Nowadays wet salt (70% salt and 30% brine) is usually spread before roads become icy. In the future we expect to see an ongoing increase in brine-spraying using ready-to-use brine.

Production method

The road salt that AkzoNobel produces is vacuum salt. Vacuum salt is obtained by pumping water into underground layers of salt. This is returned to the surface as brine. The brine is then purified in various stages then crystallized under vacuum.
