Polysulfide - Thioplast®

 

Polysulfide, better known under the brand name Thioplast® is a high qualified polymer which we produce in Germany (Greiz) and in China (Taixing). With nearly 30,000 MT in total, Akzo Nobel Functional Chemicals is the global market leader in polysulfides. Thioplast® can be split up in two groups: Thioplast® G and Thioplast® EPS.

Thioplast® G is a liquid polymer which is the perfect solution for sealing and coating applications in the construction, aircraft industry and insulation glass industry. Thioplast® is mainly used for the insulation glass sealants and the excellent adhesive property of Thioplast® sealants is the key to high qualified insulation glass sealant. This guarantees an excellent insulation against cold and heath from the outside to save energy, which is of high significance within the framework of the reduction of CO2 nowadays.

Thioplast® as a high qualified product complies with the standards of the sealants the air craft industry makes demand on. Besides the sealants in the construction market (gas stations, runways, bridges, facades), Thioplast® is used in the production of for among others printing blankets, grinding systems and coatings.

The newcomer is an epoxy terminated polysulfide, known under the name Thioplast® EPS, which combines the advantages of polysulfide and epoxies. The unique properties of Thioplast® EPS are the high chemical resistance, the adjustable flexibility and the high impact resistance. Application areas are protective coatings, sealants and adhesives.
