Sulfuric Acid - H2SO4
Sulfuric acid is possibly the largest volume commodity chemical in the world. It is produced worldwide, with the largest application being into the phosphate fertilizer industry. AkzoNobel has been producing sulfuric acid for 50+ years at its LeMoyne facility, located just north of Mobile, Alabama, USA. AkzoNobel sulfuric acid is a high quality product that is produced using high quality molten sulfur as its primary raw material, yielding a pure product with almost no contaminants. The product is sold in 93, 96, and 98% strengths.
Major applications
While the largest application for sulfuric worldwide is fertilizers, AkzoNobel markets much of its product into the pulp and paper industry, including for use in chlorine dioxide generation (the high quality of our product works well in this application). AkzoNobel sulfuric is also used frequently in different chemical processes and in various wastewater and pH control applications.
Handling/Responsible Care
We ship this product in bulk tank trucks and in railcars. These containers are dedicated to sulfuric acid service to insure the highest quality. Sulfuric acid is a highly corrosive product and must be handled with care. We offer customized technical service to our customers to help insure the product is stored and handled in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
Oleum, also called Fuming Sulphuric Acid, ,is sulphur trioxide dissolved in sulphuric acid. AkzoNobel Argentina obtains it at a 22% concentration of free SO3 , from the saturation of 98% sulphuric acid. The high quality of the raw materials used in the process allows us to obtain a chemically pure product, free of heavy metals and with low iron content.
Oleum is mainly used in sulphonation processes , such as detergent manufacture.
Liquid at 22% concentration of free SO3 (equivalent to 105% concentration : H2SO4), iron content lower than a 100 ppm; delivered in 30 tonnes tankers.
