Our environmental commitment

 

With the growing threat of climate change and the scarcity of raw materials, sustainability is crucial to the future of our planet. We’re constantly looking to minimize our effect on the world and its resources, focusing on materials efficiency, energy and climate, water usage and cleaning up the land and air around us.

As an example of our dedication, we voluntarily conduct comprehensive soil evaluations at each of our manufacturing facilities even though there may not be any signs of problems.  Our goal is to uncover potential hazards to our employees, the community and the environment.  If these evaluations reveal any issues, we deploy the financial and human resources needed to correct the problem.

Our obligation to the environment goes beyond our own plant doors.  We work closely with our customers to create solutions for treating wastewater and disposing of hazardous waste.  We recently developed and installed a small-scale biological treatment system for glue wastewater at a customer plant.  Upon exiting the system, the treated water is clean enough to be sent to the local municipal sewage treatment plant.

In Kristinehamn, Sweden, steam generated by our manufacturing processes is piped to the local power generation authority to supplement traditional electric power in the winter months.  The process has contributed to a much-needed boost in capacity during these high-use months, providing low-cost heat to homes, water and businesses in the local community.
