Unveiled – the projects that will drive carbon footprint reduction in the vehicle repair industry

The projects going forward as part of AkzoNobel’s Paint the Future Vehicle Repair Sustainability Challenge have been announced.

The initial challenge launch was an intense 24 hours that focused on three topics – energy transition, process efficiency and circular solutions. Those involved worked together, sharing and understanding targets, pinpointing barriers and defining solutions.

A recent discovery day saw the results and learnings from the first phase presented to the participants, who then voted on the projects that will be developed. These are:

  • Repairability and circularity guide – a way to help companies, bodyshops and drivers reduce their carbon footprint by cultivating a ‘fix, not replace’ mindset, cutting the amount of resources needed
  • Understanding the carbon footprint – a solution to help everyone involved in vehicle repair to measure carbon emissions in a standardized way, with the ability to calculate the amount of CO2 for each repair. This will also help those in the insurance/fleet sectors through the development of standard key performance indicators (KPIs)

Now, together with our partners – Allianz, Arval, Centro Zaragoza, Den Elzen Autoschade, Europcar Mobility Group and The Vella Group – the hard work begins as we focus on making our ambitions a reality.

Ignacio Roman Navarro, AkzoNobel’s Commercial Director for Vehicle Refinishes EMEA, said: “We’re really excited by these projects, which have the potential to make a huge difference when it comes to reducing our collective carbon footprint across the vehicle repair industry value chain.

“It’s been fantastic to see everyone come together, inspiring each other as they share ideas and really commit to making a tangible impact. It’s bringing our purpose – to Paint the Future – to life, as we work towards a more sustainable future.”
