Soluble and insoluble cellulose oligomers

Charles Sanderson, Renmatix, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA

Challenge area: Cellulose-based alternatives to synthetics

Renmatix's mission is to decompose biomass into its constituent parts using heat, water and pressure to produce industrial sugars for cost effective, sustainable fuels and chemicals.

Pioneering technology developed by the team breaks lignocellulosic materials down into lignin, sugars and cellulosics, using only hot, pressurized water resulting in two significant products. Crysto™ is a suspension of uniquely sized and shaped cellulose particles that, amongst other properties, demonstrates viscosity-modifying properties. Soligo™ is a combination of fully water soluble cellulose oligomers that can be modified on hydroxyl groups to create bio-based additives.

Innovating the industrial sugars space, Renmatix's products have broad applications including chemical intermediates and commodity chemicals.
