Pam Wilson RD&I Manager, Americas at Coil and Extrusion Coatings in Columbus, Ohio, USA Hi my name is Pam Wilson. I did a BSc. in Chemistry at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York and completed my PhD in Macromolecular Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where I worked on developing polyurethanes that released drugs for coating onto heart stents. I joined AkzoNobel in January 2010 only a few months after completing my PhD. It's been all go since then. I started in the Packaging Coatings R&D group in Strongsville, OH as a bench chemist. We not only supported the current business, but also scoped out the latest innovative technology that set us apart from the competition and made our products even safer. It was very exciting to be at the sharp end of developing resins made from sustainable and recycled raw materials that are a genuine alternative to petroleum-based products. The 100% recyclable EvCote coating for paper cups was a result of that work. After learning the technology, I was given opportunities to lead projects and also manage a team of talented people. In 2014, I joined the Coil and Extrusion Coatings group as the RD&I Manger of the Americas. We have two support labs in Columbus, OH and Garcia, Mexico. We are also building up our development lab in Strongsville to work on longer term projects. This role brings new challenges, but I am always excited for the chance to learn and grow. As always, I have found my fellow colleagues to be very helpful and excellent teachers. And I am happy to bring both my Packaging and Coil knowledge to the new Metal Coatings business. Outside work, I mostly spend time with my husband and two young children at home. We also like to get out of the house and chat over a few beers at our favorite pub when we can find a babysitter. I value the balance between growing professionally and spending time with my family.
