Visiting our Essential Art Space

Located on the ground floor of the AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam, our Essential Art Space is open to the public on normal working days from 10 am to 5pm.

‘It’s not a conventional exhibition space, but a flexible and dynamic art and meeting arena,’ explains Hester Alberdingk Thijm, Director of the AkzoNobel Art Foundation.

Visiting our Essential Art Space

‘The space has been specifically designed to attract people to come inside and to facilitate their meeting one another in among the works of art. Openings create exciting sightlines through the different art spaces, but the atmosphere remains intimate. The dynamic open space enables us to exhibit our collection of international contemporary art, which we have built up over the last twenty years.’

The AkzoNobel Art Space is a meeting place for colleagues, customers and art lovers, for the people of Amsterdam, and for visitors from other parts of the Netherlands and even from other countries.

The Art Space was designed by Tom Postma Design, well known for special exhibition concepts in such arenas as Art Basel and TEFAF, in association with the building’s architect, Folkert van Hagen of GROUP A.
