Responsibility

Install and maintain machinery, fixtures, and utilities. Maintain and repair buildings, grounds and exterior structures. Work with other maintenance crafts in the planning and layout work from blueprints, drawings, other written specifications and/or oral instructions. Selects materials, equipment, and tools to be used. Uses hand and/or portable power tools. Sets up and operates the full range of shop equipment and machines of each trade, working to close tolerances, and uses appropriate standard and specialized measuring and testing instruments.


- Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Change behavior in relation to others’ actions.
- Performs preventive maintenance and regular maintenance of plant.
- Maintains records of maintenance, and repair activities, to include maintaining current of as-built drawings.
- Follows established safety and environmental policies and procedures, and promotes continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance in the workplace.
- Uses and promotes the use of a computerized maintenance management system.
- Reads, interprets, utilizes, and updates schematics, blueprints.
- Maintains equipment and performs related duties to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant.
- Prepares reports and records on inspection, testing, and repair activities.
- Maintains an inventory of repair parts and supplies, ordering materials as needed; ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes workplace safety.
- Isolates defects in motors, and other electrical equipment.
- Measures, cuts, threads, and installs threaded pipes and fittings.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Follows established safety and environmental policies and procedures, and promotes continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance in the workplace.
- Participates in development and uses a computerized maintenance management system.
- Modifies and repairs new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating, steam piping systems, and hydraulic systems, condensate, vacuum, and circulating pumps.
- Maintains and repairs utility systems such as heating and/or air conditioning equipment, boiler plant equipment compressed air system chillers city and plant water equipment.
- Maintains various types of non-production industrial plant machinery equipment and systems.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- High School diploma or GED.
- At least 1 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified or equivalent.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Ability to maintain current and accurate records of work performed.
- Ability to operate a variety of electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance management principles as related to supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and blueprints.
- Ability to work in elevated locations up to 75 feet.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
- Knowledge of designing, using, and repairing machines and tools.
- Knowledge of constructing buildings and other structures.
- Knowledge use precision alignment equipment.
- Knowledge of how to build machines, buildings, and other things. Also includes knowledge of how to use computers, machines, and tools to do work more usefully.
- Knowledge of the features and rules of matter and energy. Areas of knowledge include air, water, light, heat, weather, and other natural events.
- Knowledge of protecting people, data, and property.
- Hydraulics and pneumatics of systems involving pneumatic tanks, air compressors, pneumatic actuators, and pumps.
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical repair and maintenance work.
