AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry –has an outstanding opportunity for a Purchasing Manager. The position is part of the Purchasing organization in AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry, which has 250 suppliers for the division, and is an integral part of the team responsible for ensuring that business objectives are achieved through sound procurement strategies, work procedures, and common purchasing practices. This position will primarily support but not be limited to the Personal Care division within AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry. Leverage synergies within the region and with other AkzoNobel divisions within the portfolio to reduce costs.

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible to define and implement raw material strategies that improve the total cost positions of the businesses including the improvement of service levels, efficiency optimization of the operations, reduction of supply chain costs and to establish alignment between AkzoNobel Sourcing (ANS), the Business Unit Procurement departments and their business stakeholders like Marketing and R&D.

Specific Tasks:
- Responsible for spend of $100 million, sourcing and purchasing Latex and Monomers, Chemicals and Intermediates, Additives, Solvents, Resins and Precursors
- Develops and proposes the procurement strategy utilizing the SSM methodology for raw materials to the business management. Develops and executes action plans, after approval of the strategy
- Survey markets for best source of new supply sources; contacts potential suppliers and negotiates most favorable proposals; builds and maintains solid relationships with suppliers
- Responsible for the collection and interpretation of market data that contribute to cost of raw materials that are the purchaser’s direct responsibility and for other materials or suppliers, when requested by the Business Unit
- Issues RFQ’s and negotiates supply contracts/agreements consistent with purchasing strategy
- Evaluates Supplier performance based on price, delivery, quality and service and information received from internal users; acts as a team member in supplier ISO Audits
- Monitors raw materials forecasts and usage of materials by working with demand planning and plant personnel when needed. Acts as liaison with suppliers in case of difficult supply situations or when the supply is interrupted
- Anticipates and negotiates price changes and develops a thorough knowledge of products and services assigned to purchase
- Advises purchasing management of industry competitive situations, alternative supply sources, material and service cost trends
- Maintains effective communication and active participation with other Surface Chemistry Purchasing Agents/Buyers and AkzoNobel Purchasing Professionals to attain best price, quality and service for agreements with Suppliers
- Supports when requested the purchasing activities of the Business Unit in the other regions
- Represents the Surface Chemistry BU both inside and outside AkzoNobel; builds and maintains a network of business contacts in support of organizational objectives; conducts business in a responsible and ethical manner
- Utilize the AkzoNobel tools e.g. ANT for savings tracking, SSM, Ecovadis Tfs, Code of Conduct for suppliers, Risk Matrix to minimize single sourcing etc
- Performs other related duties as assigned including but not limited to all compliance and ISO audit activities
- Travel upwards of 15% to plants and conferences, this includes local and international travel

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Bachelor degree required, major in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Business Management preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with purchasing chemicals (Latex and Monomers, Chemicals and Intermediates, Additives, Solvents, Resins and Precursors)
- Requires strong negotiation skills, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to exchange and furnish information requiring detailed explanations and discussions with suppliers and various levels of personnel
- Strong knowledge of PC applications; working knowledge of SAP
- Must be able to travel at least 15% of the time to visit plants and attend conferences, this includes local and international travel
