Job Context

The AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry Agro Applications Group operates globally and provides its customers with specialty polymers, surfactants, and formulated solutions to enhance the performance of their products. The Agro team does not provide agricultural actives but provides a variety of additives to formulators to improve properties such as adjuvancy, wetting, emulsification and dispersancy. The successful candidate will join the Agro Applications group in supporting the needs of its customers. This includes the in-house formulation and application testing of products to provide technical solutions to customers in the Agro market. The position is also responsible for the initiation, design and execution of incremental development projects addressing both customer and market needs. The position is laboratory based but the applicant will be a focal point for specific customers and will support Sales and Marketing in visiting those customers and identifying their needs. The applicant will also represent Akzo Nobel at technical forums and conferences presenting papers and posters as appropriate.
 
Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities
- Provide technical support to customers addressing specific requests for help.

- Develop data to support the promotion of AkzoNobel products in agrochemical applications.

- Identify unmet customer and market needs and provide creative solutions through incremental and long term development programs.

- Provide technical input into the Agro Applications business strategy

- Forge close technical relationships with assigned customers

- Utilize best practices in formulation development

- Monitor IP and scientific literature for competitive threats and customer developments

- Have a safe and organized work ethic

- Deliver robust solutions based on sound science and meeting the customer’s expectation

- Maintains company safety standards and supports company values.

Functional Responsibilities/Network

Will be a member of the regional Agro TS&D group
Will be a member of the Croton River Research Group
Will provide technical support to Agro Sales and Marketing personnel

Job requirements/Candidate profile

Functional Competencies :
- PhD. in Chemistry or a related field 3+ years of relevant experience or Master's Degree in Chemistry or a related field with 5 + years' experience
- Experience in the development and formulation of agrochemical products .
- There is a strong preference for a practical person who is hands –on in the laboratory and who possesses good interpersonal skills enabling them to interact with sales staff and customers.
- Strong work ethic, good oral and written communication skills, and proficient in experimental design methods
- Results oriented
