The candidate will work within a newly created team in coatings research working towards better access to insight from data and data visualisation. This team aims to develop insight and produce predictive performance models from existing data in support of ongoing technology development in the Performance Coatings Business Area Research group. .
This multi-disciplinary role will involve review and use of state of the art data handling techniques, audience specific data visualisation, and development of applications for use within cutting-edge research teams.

- Research activity into current state-of-the-art in data handling processing and visualisation techniques and tools,
- Building, testing and deploying data tools for analysis and visualisations,
- Contribute to the direction and supervision of relevant current and future academic partnerships and agreements with partner companies,
- Contribute to the design and implementation of work programs to meet the business needs (short, medium and long term),
- Contribute to strategic vision of research within larger research group.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

Degree, and ideally MSc/PhD, from a discipline such as data science, statistics or computer science. A strong degree in a subject which requires predictive modelling, data visualisation or geographic data analysis will also be considered.

- Experience of working in data rich environment,
- Experience solving problems with creative/innovative thinking,
- Experience connecting, formatting and aggregating data or databases,
- Experience tailoring communication of data and insights to difference audiences,
- Experience within an industrial research environment is desirable, but not essential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Adaptability and flexibility to balance short term business needs into longer term research plans.
- Ability to proactively work with non-standard equipment, data and cutting edge data manipulation tools,
- Must be able to work in a team and have good interpersonal skills
- Must be able to rapidly adapt to use new skills and apply technical expertise to new problems.
- Use of data collection, input and analysis tools,
- Use of data visualisation tools (MS Excel, Spotfire, HTML etc.),
- Use of data handling and analysis systems (R, SPSS, Python etc.),
- Use standard communication packages (e.g. MS Office).
