The person in this role supports the Surface Chemistry (Almeda Road) site by assisting with troubleshooting, providing technical support, and proposing changes to improve efficiency and decrease costs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for supporting plant and company safety/PSM initiatives
- Assist in developing capital projects for new electrical equipment/instrumentation and major repairs
- Proactively identify needs, conceive improvements, consider potential issues and evaluate costs and potential savings to optimize existing machinery and/or processes
- Prepare specifications for purchase of new materials and equipment
- Create, modify, and document electrical schematic drawings, control cabinet layouts, control networks, single line drawings and power distribution layouts
- Assist Engineering and Maintenance personnel with the identification of causes of electrical and control problems and provide solutions to problems through adjustments, modifications, training, documentation or revisions to programs, parts and systems
- Support routine maintenance on the plant electrical distribution equipment
- Providing on-call support for maintenance troubleshooting of electrical equipment and instrumentation
- Utilize data to analyze equipment performance; suggest and lead improvements
- Accountable for electrical safety at the plant and associated audits
- Confer with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
- Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, and systems for the site
- Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
- Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications and codes requirements
- Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications
- Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
Other Responsibilities
- Understand and help implement the SBU HSES / Responsible Care Policy and related objectives
- Maintain awareness of potential environmental, health, safety and security impacts in area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs
- Understand and implement any parts of the Houston Environmental Compliance Plans, Waste Management Plans and Emergency Response Plan that applies to area of responsibility

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering 
- 5+ years in a similar role at a manufacturing facility
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are a must
- Experience with variable speed drives, valves, and instrumentation used for chemical plant production process
- Ability to develop maintenance personnel staff so they are knowledgeable of the process and have the skill set to quickly troubleshoot and repair problematic equipment
- Must be team oriented with ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams
- Creative problem solver
- Project management skills
- Strong leadership skills are required
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Willing/able to provide occasional off-hours support
- Electrical Engineer Skills and Qualifications:  - Experience with Electrical Area Classification
- Electronic Systems, Electronics Troubleshooting, Electronic 
Testing Design, Project Management, Quality Focus,
- Analyzing Information
- Reporting Research Results 

- Knowledge of/experience with power distribution systems (including high voltage) and/or instrumentation is preferred
