Purpose of the Job
- To lead and develop the QC and technical teams
- To identify and implement improvement opportunities in the QC and technical processes
- To lead customer and external certification audits to achieve the appropriate standards
- To ensure the quality control of all raw materials and finished goods in the Houston operation
- Investigate customer complaints and implement process improvements where required
- Implement and improve the Daily Process Management/Process Capability
- Lead in Continuous Improvement implementation
- The Quality Control Manager is responsible for the day to day management of the Quality Control Laboratory, including all testing, record keeping, QC staff supervision, and the acquisition of laboratory supplies
- Perform all responsibilities as Management Representative for maintaining the site’s ISO-9001 certification
- Maintain lab safety policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Provide supervision, leadership, and training to laboratory technicians, to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner to meet internal and external quality requirements.
- Schedule and oversee the Internal Auditing of the site’s required ISO-9001
- Conduct and record the required annual management reviews of ISO-9001
- Follow and ensure adherence of all safety and environmental guidelines for the QC laboratory operations and personnel.
- Assure the required QC analytical data transactions are entered into SAP on timely basis and are accurate.
- Provide reasonable support to the other various departments (safety, engineering, production, environmental, maintenance and HR).
- Set up certificate profiles, inspection plans, and analytical methods as required in SAP. (Quality Module – SAP Power User)
- Participate in plant management committees.
- Participates in the site’s HSE&S processes and training activities.
- Understand and implement any Environmental Compliance Plans, Waste Management Plans and Emergency Response Plan that applies to the area of responsibility.
- Serves as a member of the BU Quality Council
- Host all audits e.g. ISO9001/14000 and ensure processes are in place for full compliance
- Participation in country audits to support the business
- Host key customer visits to support the North America business
Factory technical support:
- Provide factory technical support to ensure formulation control and appropriate conversion of group formulations to Houston versions
- Investigate and rectify batch issues
- Investigate customer complaints and ensure appropriate corrective actions are in place
- Ensure new product introductions are transferred to the factory with minimal issues and the initial batches are supervised. Review new introductions with central laboratory staff after 3 factory batches have been produced
- Provide technical support for process/cycle time improvements
- Support customer certificate of analysis requests
- Maintain recipes on the factory process control system
Quality improvement activities:
- Identify and implement Quality Improvement Plans (QIP) in line with the ‘Houston Vision’ activities and supporting our certification requirements
Houston Quality Control:
- Lead the Houston QC team to ensure appropriate raw material and finished goods testing is in place to identify potential batch issues

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- >5 years in a manufacturing quality role or in a comparable role to this one 
- B.S. in Chemistry, Engineering in core discipline, or Technical equivalent
- Strong statistical analysis background
- Previous experience in change management, process/ continuous improvement
- Ability to present professionally to all manner of audiences (e.g. operators, auditors, customers)
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers and sales professionals regarding quality issues. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to deal successfully with internal and external audit bodies
- Good team orientation
- Leadership abilities necessary to take new programs from initial development through implementation. Personal commitment to safety with ability to work safely and follow all safety policies
- Ability to cope with a number of priorities concurrently
- Be detail minded and have good organizational skills
- Flexibility
- Numerate, with an ability to manipulate and analyze data (e.g. batch testing data, raw material and finished goods data)
