The AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry Polymer PPR operates globally and provides its customers with specialty polymers to enhance the performance of their products. The Polymer PPR team does not provide the final formulations but provides a variety of additives to improve the properties such as scale inhibition, dispersion, hydrotroping and rheology modification water based formulations. The successful candidate should have a background in chemistry and preferably some experience with technical service and applications of water soluble polymers. This candidate will support our technical service team primarily in the area of water treatment and may need to assist in other application areas. This candidate may have a technician reporting to them.

Functional Responsibilities/Network

• Will be a member of the regional Polymer TS&d group
• Will be a member of the regional Polymer group
• Will provide technical support to all Surface Chemistry Sales and Marketing personnel

Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities

• Technical Service for existing products and applications testing of new products

• Provide technical support to Customers and the business via telephone, field, and lab including; laboratory work, gathering information, travel, etc.

• Performs and reports experiments necessary to attain the objectives of the business.

• Supports the incremental development of new products

• Interacts with Synthesis, Analytical, GRD and TS&d groups in developing new products and resolving customer concerns.

• Maintains a laboratory notebook, prepares monthly project reports, conducts literature searches and maintains application databases

• Maintains company safety standards and lives the company values.

• Technical service can include oilfield and other non-water treatment applications. Interacts with consultant(s) as needed and assists in field trials

Job requirements/Candidate profile

· B.S/M.S. in Chemistry or a related field + 1-5 years of relevant experience.

· Experience in the area of Industrial water treatment (preferred) or oil field scale control. Experience in the applications of water soluble and emulsion polymers is a plus.

· There is a strong preference for a practical person who is hands on in the laboratory.

· The candidate will have to possess good interpersonal skills enabling them to interact with business colleagues and customers. The candidate may have to spend a significant portion of their time with customer interactions and the job may require 10-20% travel.

· Strong work ethic, good oral and written communication skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office programs
