Responsibility

Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities:

• Responsible for the completion of assigned color formula development projects. Working closely with Group Leader to support the color and application projects and supervises the activities to insure achieving the specified result.
• Define starting pigmentation using visual and instrumental methods, developing color formulas which match automotive standards using specified customer application procedures.
• Review of formulas to ensure consistency with technology guidelines.
• Supply of customer trial samples, and creation of color standard panels meeting customer expectations.
• Responsible to coordinate with the human resources allocated to insure timely completion of projects. Serves as the primary application liaison and provides application support to other internal functional groups as well as customers regarding assigned color formulation projects. This includes taking part in formal and informal internal and customer meetings and interfacing with customers as required obtaining formal color approval.
• Provides progress updates, technical plans, project summaries and other internal correspondences as required to ensure appropriate communication of project status and needs.
• Proactively supports all activities to ensure that a safe environment and professional laboratory appearance is maintained. Manages safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.
• Provides color and application training and department introductions for Color personnel. Assists in R&D, Technical projects, especially with respect to investigations of application evaluations.
• Promotes the current quality system through adhering to the elements and ensuring that all group members are thoroughly familiar with and adhere to the philosophy, quality statement, quality manual, and are competent in the appropriate procedures. This position also has the responsibility and authority to prevent the occurrence of product nonconformity.
• Promotes a positive example in daily activities, as well as mentoring group members and participating positively in cross functional planning/ problem solving activities.
• Performs additional duties as required.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

·         Educational: Bachelor Degree in Chemistry from 4 year college or related field experience.
·         Skill set: 10+ years hands on experience in color development/domain specializing in waterborne and effect color matching.
·         Color vision: (>70 typical Good) is a must. The candidate will be tested.
·         People Management skills: Supervisory and employee management skills of minimum 5 years
·         Travel: Possible < 10% to internal and external customer sites and not required
·         Knowledge of colorimetry, paint products and statistical methods
·         Risk assessment: root cause analysis
·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills
·         Equipment Knowledge  ie. Color, Bell, estat, program, versus knowledge ***color software, spectrophotometer,
·         Proficient in Microsoft Office, and MS Project
·         Detail Oriented 
·         Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds and stand for long periods of time.  Also requires extensive stooping and bending.
·         Candidate must be able to work in a manufacturing & laboratory environment and be capable of wearing an air purifying respirator.  To wear a respirator per OSHA regulations, candidate must pass medical evaluation and fit testing to qualify as a respirator user.
