The Polymer Chemistry manufacturing site in Pasadena, TX has an outstanding opportunity for a passionate, experienced professional to assume the role of Senior Engineer.  This position will coordinate and see to the completion of major process improvement and capital projects within the site units, from process analysis, project conception and development through project management and start up.
The Pasadena site manufactures organic peroxides which are sold to major manufacturers of thermoplastic resins such as PVC, LDPE, polypropylene, EPS and acrylic resins.  Organic Peroxide products are hazardous, mainly due to temperature controlled transportation and handling.  The Pasadena site also manufactures thermoset and crosslinking peroxides, as well as toll produces optical monomers.
The non-union site has approximately 90 employees and operates 24/7 365 days per year. They work a 9/80 schedule.
The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, an analytical mind, flexible work style, self-starter, and ability to lead diverse project teams (internal and/or contractors).
This position reports to the Operations Manager and it does not have any direct reports.

The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related technology degree and 5-8 years’ engineering project/process experience in a plant environment. Emphasis will be on chemical plant production.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Manage all aspects of major project work.
- Participate in process design and start up activities as required.
- As a key project team member participates with production and maintenance departments in project or work package design, planning, organizing and supervision during shut downs.
- Performs special process or maintenance studies as requested.
- Assists in preparing site emergency and construction standards along with project procedures.
- Maintains and develops a professional competency consistent with industry and AkzoNobel standards.
- Assists in training other employees, engineers, operators, etc. in equipment and/or process changes.
Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Specific Responsibilities
- Understand and help implement the Pasadena Functional Chemical Site Operating Policy and objectives which includes MTQ and ISO/RC 14001.
- Be aware of potential health, safety, security and environmental impacts in your area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs.
- Understand and implement any parts of the Pasadena Functional Chemicals’ Environmental Compliance Plan and Waste Management Plan that apply to your area of responsibility.
- Participate in the site's on-going Pollution Prevention Process.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- B.S. Chemical Engineering or related technology degree
- 5-8 years in project/process experience in plant environment
- Knowledge of chemical plant production
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of process control computers
- SAP, CAD, and Delta V experience preferred
- Able to read, write and communicate in English
- Must be able to wear respirator
- Must be able to wear steel toed shoe, safety glasses and hard hat when going into the plant.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and climb stairs and ladders.
