The AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry MAS team supports the regional R&D efforts. Our goal is to provide the best information within a short time to our customers in response to their characterization needs. The team operates regionally supporting all aspects of the business from three sites in the continental US. Capabilities and capacity at each site is leveraged to achieve the best result with the most prompt response.
The successful candidate will have the ability to operate in a small group environment responding to varied priority needs from on-site and other site requests. Skills to multitask between report preparation, data reduction, sample preparation and instrumental setup are required.

The successful candidate should have a background in chemistry and preferably operational experience with analytical instrumentation (GPC, LC, GC, GC/MS, IR, ICP) method development and the application of statistical data analysis methods.

Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities

• Provide insightful, prompt analysis of developmental and commercial products.

• Provide support to plant operations in resolving production upset and analyses by capabilities unique in the R&D lab.

• Perform as a member of an extended team encompassing multiple sites and a wide array of chemical analysis needs.

• Supports the incremental development of new products

• Interact closely with Synthesis, GRD and TS&d groups in assisting with developing new products and resolving customer concerns.

• Maintains a laboratory notebook, provide insightful analysis reports, prepare monthly project reports and utilize LIMS database.

• Maintains company safety standards and lives the company values.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

• B.S/M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Eng. or a related field + 1-5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in the area of emulsion polymer analysis. Experience in the creation of robust analytical methods.
• Strong computer skills. Base expectation is ability to operate MS Office suite of programs at a proficient level.
• Ability to apply statistical measures to data analysis.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair instruments is a plus.
• There is a strong preference for a practical person who is hands on in the laboratory.
• The candidate will have to possess good interpersonal skills enabling them to interact with colleagues and customers. The job will require little travel.
• Strong work ethic, good oral and written communication skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office programs
