Position Summary

AkzoNobel seeks a Legal Counsel to join its North American legal team in its Chicago, IL regional headquarters. The ideal candidate will have experience providing legal advice on various commercial agreements and matters. The role will involve advising a variety of business clients on a wide range of commercial and corporate matters including commercial contracts and procurement contracts, as well as working with legal colleagues in other jurisdictions on cross border transactions.

Principal Responsibilities 
- Provide legal services to various businesses with respect to wide-ranging commercial legal matters.
- Draft, negotiate and/or review various commercial, procurement and other agreements.
- Educate and train business colleagues on various legal matters.
- Work with specialist legal colleagues in M & A, Environmental and Employment law on various matters.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- J.D. degree from an accredited law school with admission to the Illinois bar or at least one other U.S. state bar (and eligible to be admitted in Illinois for in-house practice).
- 4-7 years of legal experience as a commercial transactional lawyer at a major law firm and/or a multi-national corporation.
- Extensive experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documents.
- A working knowledge of antitrust law sufficient to spot potential issues and to work with outside antitrust counsel is important.
- Top level analytical, counseling, negotiating, communication and interpersonal skills with sound legal, ethical and commercial judgment.
- The ability to work as a team member across the region and globally is critical.
