We are currently seeking an HSE Advisor for our Vehicle Refinishes Strategic Business Unit located in Pontiac, MI. Responsible include, but are not limited to:

• Act as an influential advisor to line management by building and fostering a deep understanding of the theoretical concepts, industry standards and best practices in AkzoNobel’s safety core processes (people/process safety) and/or sub-processes
• Coach others by leveraging and extending HSE knowledge through personal participation in AkzoNobel’s expert pools for delivery of the Safety Common Platform, HSE faculty learning programs, auditing and/or incident investigation, training activities and personal functional development.
• Guide line management to developing and implementating HSE policies, plans and practices in line with the AkzoNobel HSE Policies and in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements
• In conjuction with line management, set the safety culture and manage hazards
• Ensure compliance with and commitment to the AkzoNobel HSE policy, directives, rules & procedures
• Contribute to the development of the HSE strategy for design, deployment and delivery
• Drive continuous improvement of the site’s processes, policies and standards

Job requirements/Candidate profile

• Bachelor’s degree in HSE, engineering and/or related discipline required; Master’s degree preferred
• At least 3 years work experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety role.
• Capable of functioning in both a strategic and tactical/ hands on capacity
• Project management skills; Proven ability to positively influence others; gain agreement or acceptance of plans, activities and move others willingly towards a desired goal or course of action
• Must have strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation and problem solving skills
• Previous experience with working with multiple units, disciplines, locations a plus
