AkzoNobel Inc.–has an outstanding opportunity for a Project Manager- Operations/Transition. This position manages one or multiple (transition) projects according to the (transition) methodology. The projects involve moving of activities, changes in systems, and optimization of processes. The projects have stakeholders in the business, functions and operations (which could be outsourced). They are often international and can be complex. The projects need to be tightly managed in order to prevent business disruption.
The Transition Project Manager will support the development and sharing of the (project / transition) methodology and will manage a variety of projects in Global Business Services (Finance, People Services, Transitions) if so required.

Specific Tasks:
Transition and other Projects
- Plan and manage the projects according to the GBS methodology
- Align stakeholders in the receiving and sending organizations, Functions and Business
- Enable the decision-making process in the transition and host stage gate review meetings
- Lead the transition team
- Keep proper documentation (logs) and report on project progress to Management
- Manage escalations and provide solutions
- Manages controls status, risk, issues, and budgets appropriately
- Manages changes to the scope of the transition
Support Transition Methodology
- Improve methods, tools, and training for general project management
- Create and maintain collaboration environments for projects, using SharePoint or similar software
- Maintain and improve master transition plans and templates in MS Project
- Documents policies, procedures, and accelerators to be used as best practice for transition management
- Conduct post-transition/project reviews and works with stakeholders to identify weaknesses in the methods or plans and works with leadership to propose and create improvements

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- BS/BA degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related Analytical field required
- Three (3) – ten (10) years of project management experience
- Must have been primary responsible manager for at least 10 projects end-to-end
- Experience as Portfolio Manager or Program Manager for matrixed business unit or functional group desired
- Experience working in mid/large complex and diverse environments
- History working within a shared services or BPO organization.
- Demonstrated experience with more than one industry type including consulting experience or service delivery experience desired
- Ability to work in Chicago and to travel (internationally) up to 25%
- Proven track record of conducting business in a mixed-language environment desired
- Experience training, mentoring, and/or coaching new project managers desired
- Software required: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), MS Project and Project Server
- SAP and SharePoint desired
- Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Dutch and Chinese a plus
- Business Acumen: Mastery skills in understanding the business, being agile and applying expertise in communication and working with diverse groups of people and skill sets
- Calmness and Clarity Under Pressure: Is capable of working in a fast-paced and chaotic environment with multiple personality types and not get flustered or lose self-control
- Positive Attitude: Be able to project a positive attitude and evoke positive responses from others
- Facilitation: Must be able to facilitate difficult working sessions with senior leaders and handle positive and negative feedback and inputs appropriately
- Execution: Mastery of project scheduling skills and use of software such as MS Project and Project Server
- Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to understand complex, multi-project environments and be able to quickly diagnose potential risks and issues
- Talent Management: Demonstrated capability to facilitate groups of senior audiences, provide candid feedback, ability to train people on complex tools sets, and excellence in working in a highly collaborative environment
- Personal Credibility & Integrity: Demonstrated excellence in professionalism, professional communication, presence, a high degree of integrity, and willingness/strength to do the right thing in difficult situations
