The Surface Chemistry manufacturing site in Morris, IL has an outstanding opportunity for a passionate professional to assume the role of Shift Supervisor.  This position will supervise production line operators (hourly personnel) in accordance with plant procedures and ensure smooth production operation during shift with complete adherence to safety and environmental compliance.
 
Reports To: Ops/Production Manager
Direct Reports: 13 union operators
 
The Morris site primarily produces Fatty Amines which are used in many industries. Uses for the nitrogen derivatives include fabric softeners, oil field chemicals, asphalt emulsifiers, petroleum additives, mining, and others.  This is a union site with approximately 140 employees and the operation runs 24/7.
 
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise and direct plant personnel to meet production requirements
- Primary AkzoNobel representative onsite during off hours
- Incident commander for emergency until relieved
- Solve problems related to raw materials, equipment, and scheduling as needed
- Participate on project, operational, and/or cross-functional teams as required to support the business plan
- Prioritize resource demands on off-shifts
- Schedule overtime for all operating units (including coverage for call-offs)
- Prioritize maintenance on the off-shifts
- Responsible for reporting transportation issues on the off-shift and making necessary contacts
- Issue work permits (45/week on average)
- Resolve conflicting instructions
- Generate/revise written work instructions as needed
- Assist with reconciliation of both finished product and raw material inventories
- Participate in continuous improvement projects as needed.
- Lead shift tool box meetings
- Interaction with Q.C. as needed.
- Responsible for maintenance preparation in accordance with LOTOTO and LSR.
 
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing plant
- Work may be performed in general manufacturing and/or warehouse environment
- Must be able to work 12 hour, day and night rotating shift.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Associates degree or two – five years chemical manufacturing experience.

- Demonstrated knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment.

- MS Office skills and SAP preferred

- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to develop and maintain good working relationship and work productively with others in a team environment

- Ability to troubleshoot
- Strong leadership skills
- Change Management skills
- Ability to work rotating shifts required
- Ability to work nights, weekend and overtime when necessary
 
Physical Requirements:
- You are required to be able to climb stairs, ladders, bend, scoop and crawl
- You must be able to properly wear a respirator
