AkzoNobel Inc.–has an outstanding opportunity for a Capex Project Main Buyer. The Capex Project Main Buyer will implement the purchasing excellence for the CAPEX related spend in close alignment with key stakeholders such as Projects and Engineering and Business Units. This individual will develop and implement procurement strategies for and coordinate the procurement scope of the assigned projects (engineering, equipment, services, contractors ) to ensure project requirements within budget, schedule and compliance with company policies and guidelines.

This position can be remote but preferred location at Houston, TX or Chicago, IL sites.

 
Specific Tasks:
 
Control:
- Execution and adoption of the project procurement procedures
- Reporting on the project procurement progress within the project and within the procurement function
- Keep track of needed contract changes
- Analyze and manage supplier risks
- Manage risk profile AN vs risk profile suppliers
- Analyze supplier performance on a regular basis and proactively advise Project management on next steps in the supplier-AkzoNobel contract
- Set-up and keep up to date a system for (potential) claims
- Escalates conflicts related to procurement activities between parties (internal and external)

Execution:
- Set and get approval on the procurement strategy, incl. market analysis
- Selects suppliers based on pre-set criteria
- Executes tendering processes
- Evaluates offers and proposes best solutions incl. risk analysis
- Negotiates with suppliers
- Draft and conclude contracts in cooperation with Legal Affaires dept
- Assures timely and zero-defect deliveries of goods and services in accordance with the project timeline
- Organizes regular progress meetings between stakeholders and suppliers
- Formulates actions & decisions and safe-guards follow-up
- Determines deviations in contract scope and schedule and takes appropriate actions in cooperation with stake holders
- Organize close out meetings
- Guarantee issues
- Claim handling

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Bachelor degree, Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred
- Minimum 7 years of experience from procurement ownership
- Experience working on medium to large size industrial projects
- Experience working in an international environment, preferred
- Understanding and experience of cultural diversity
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Stress resistance
- Experience of project management
- Good leadership skills and ability to build and maintain teams and networks
- Ability to form and lead cross functional teams in international environment
- Analytical skills with ability to capture total economic impact of multiple business alternatives
- Ability to manage conflicting business interests
- Ability to travel upwards of 10% of the time
