Driven by an increasing business demand for Process Analytical Technology (PAT) implementing at AkzoNobel production sites, there is a current need for establishing regional PAT expertise to develop, support and foster PAT opportunities in the Americas.
- Support and advance the off-line near-infrared spectroscopic methods in current use at multiple Surface Chemistry BU production plants.
- Provide support to finalization of present on-line PAT implementation project within Surface Chemistry.
- Advocate PAT to the many AkzoNobel businesses with presence in the Americas.
- Act as an advocate for transfer of existing implementation technologies from EU to equivalent Americas plants.
- Perform as a member of an extended team engaged in PAT projects that can be implemented in the Americas.
- Interact closely with Process/Product research and Measurement/Analytical Sciences expert groups at Brewster, NY in assisting with development of new PAT implementations.
- Maintain excellent records of project efforts.
- Maintain company safety standards and live the company values.
- Develop, implement, and maintain spectroscopic calibration models at various AkzoNobel production sites in the Americas and lead such projects.
- Will be a member of the SRG-MAS PAT group in Deventer, The Netherlands.
- Will actively interface with local PPR and MAS groups, sharing their capabilities to demonstrate/validate PAT projects.
- Will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of laboratory instrumentation to assure best possible performance and reliability.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- PhD or equivalent preferably in the field of Process Measurement and Analytical Science or Chemical Technology/Engineering with a demonstrated high affinity for Analytical Chemistry.
- Strong mathematical skills and familiarity with chemometric data analysis packages, e.g., OPUS, GRAMS, Matlab, Eigenvector, Unscrambler.
- Familiar with fundamentals and application of vibrational spectroscopy.
- Strong computer skills. Familiarity with advanced statistical data analysis packages, e.g., Minitab, Jump, Simca, etc.
- Ability to apply statistical measures to data analysis and thorough understanding of error analysis in analytical data.
- Experienced and qualified in project management is an advantage.
- The candidate will have to possess good interpersonal skills enabling them to interact with a wide variety of colleagues and customers in different functions.
- The job will require a medium level of travel, perhaps as much as 1 week per month.
- Strong work ethic, excellent oral and written communication skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Hands-on mentality and a drive to make things happen.
