This position provides process improvement support for production by analyzing and identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing process improvements through engineering projects and/or necessary process changes.
The position monitors performances in regards to targets for Asset Utilization to support the Operational Asset Management for the production department.  This position works with the shift supervisors and chemical operators to act on and report deviations in regards to Asset Utilization. This position is responsible for categorization of losses, tracking of losses, and assignment of monetary value associated with Asset Utilization Management while working with the shop floor on root cause problem solve deviations through the use of the Operational Asset Management tracking.


·         Participates in all aspects of site safety activities including auditing, safety meetings, Behavior Based Safety process, Job Safety Analysis, etc.
·         Develop and manage engineering improvement projects with a heavy emphasis on automation and advanced process controls.
·         Provide engineering support to the production department including troubleshooting, control loop tuning, batch recipe generation, and MES management.
·         Work towards being a key contact in production as back up to the Production Manager.
·         Drive batch to batch consistency improvements through implementation of SPC monitoring.
·         Use lean techniques to reduce changeover time and improve availability of highly utilized assets.
·         Proposes updates to ERP Master Data, as needed, to ensure ERP product costs are reflective of actual performance based on Asset Utilization Management data.
·         Responsible for recommending holistic solutions to financial variances.
·         Evaluate cycle times and benchmark to determine the Maximum Asset Capacity for each product and update the Operations Asset Management spreadsheet periodically.
·         Manages deviations on capacity through performance gap report evaluation, prioritization, and assignment of a monetary value.
·         Leads the process improvement review and proposes prioritization of work through risk analysis and with approval from Process Technical Manager and Production Manager
·         Identify “bad actors” and work to eliminate the “bad actors” through engineering improvements.
·         Works directly with the Shift Supervisors and shop floor to troubleshoot and root cause problem solve deviations associated with Asset Utilization.
·         Provide support and training to chemical operators/shop floor on root cause problem solving.
·         Establishes the root cause analysis level criteria and oversees the Root Cause Problem Solving process for gaps within Asset Utilization Management identified.
·         Works with the Process Improvement Engineer and other staff on detractors that impact Process Efficiency Management.
·         Responsible for the completion of assigned actions in process improvement systems.
·         Ensures the allocation of production gains/losses into the production units, categories, factors, and system in the Operational Asset Management database is accurate.
·         Categorize and track all losses associated with Asset Utilization Management through the assignment of monetary value for prioritization purposes.

Job requirements/Candidate profile


·       Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
·       4-6 Years of Experience in a chemical engineer, process improvement, continuous improvement or similar role in a Chemical Manufacturing environment.
·       Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Mini-Tab, PowerPoint, Advanced Statistical Analysis
·       Must be able to manage time effectively.
·       Lean/Six Sigma Black or Green Belt preferred.
·       DCS Batch Process Control Systems preferred.
·       Thorough understanding of traditional unit operations, process equipment, and technology.
·       Ability to review historical records to determine overall work process effectiveness.
·       Ability to reach a conclusion using relevant information and data and to determine the best course of action in a timeframe consistent with business requirements.
·       Ability to organize and lead meetings to achieve desired outcomes and objectives.
·       Ability to analyze competing needs or opportunities and rank them in a relative order of importance with input and guidance from Manager.
·       Ability to access, retrieve, and report historical data in an appropriate format (Example: plots, graphs, or charts).
·       Ability to lead a team by skillfully managing group discussion, problem solving, and decision making so that these activities yield results supported by the whole team.
·       Excellent verbal and written skills to develop clear and logical reports (with supporting information to describe improvement opportunities).
·       Ability to use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data.
·       Ability to listen and practice open advocacy.
·       Ability to provide people the written information necessary to do their job correctly.
·       Ability to make relevant information known in a responsive and effective way.
·       Operate under any applicable Good Manufacturing Practices when performing functions within their role.
