Responsibility

The Systems Engineer is the leading technical advisor and facilitator for the Plant's Distributed Control Systems (DCS). This includes the Operating system, software, hardware and network requirements. 

The person in this role is responsible for system integrity and all system changes and configurations. In addition, s/he provides support for Operations and Capital Projects for DCS needs, electrical, and instrumentation requirements including other types of control systems (PLCs, MODBUS, etc.).

This person will work in close cooperation with the Maintenance Superintendent, Production Superintendents, and Technical Superintendent to ensure optimized performance of the site.  

Principal accountabilities
- Prepares and completes RFI projects on time and in budget
- Maintain and upgrade configuration, and configuration for projects
- Maintain graphics and user documentation
- Develops and reviews loop control drawings along with other electrical and instrument drawings associated with plant control equipment using AutoCad. 
- Ensures that proper drawing standards are adhered too and that drawings are entered into the plant drawing/document control system.
- Serve as Safety Role Model
- Assume the key role in any project team responsible for modifying or expanding the DCS or other systems and assist as needed in troubleshooting
- Proactively seeks and implements cost improvement opportunities
- Assist Operations and Technical Personnel in optimizing or troubleshooting control systems and process control
- Improve the level of knowledge within the Maintenance and Production Departments for optimizing, troubleshooting and maintaining the DCS
- Contributes to preparation of Plant Capital budget

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Four (4) year degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Process Control Engineering or ten (10) years related manufacturing experience and working experience with distributed control systems, preferably the ABB/Bailey Control System (Net 90/Symphony Plus)
- Working knowledge of /experience with plant processes/projects in a manufacturing environment, preferably Chemical production.
- Working knowledge of/experience with computer networking techniques associated with the distributed control system and other control systems such as PLCs, MODBUS, etc.
- Working knowledge of/experience with Intrinsic Safety/Non-Incendive devices associated with electrical and instrumentation systems and their application is a plus.
- AutoCAD proficiency a plus
Physical Requirements: The work environment requires walking, inspecting, climbing in an industrial setting with outside weather conditions. Must be able to access any area of the the facility intended for personnel presenc e.

This position may require individual to comply with Akzo Nobel RBPS 12 Corporate CFATS Personnel Surety Compliance Policy for Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards, depending on the work area or activities within the plant.
