Manages the daily operation of the Quality Control Laboratory for a complex specialty chemical manufacturing facility.  Included in this is the testing of raw materials, in-process samples and finished products from the Morris facility as well as tolling sites.  Responsible for quality assurance via site wide ISO 9001 compliance, supporting site wide Continuous Improvement projects and quality validation using proven statistical techniques. 
- The laboratory is a 24/7 operation employing 8 Quality Control Technicians using a wide variety of analytical equipment and procedures.  There are two Quality Assurance Chemists who perform non routine testing, develop new and revised testing protocols and address any specific customer issues and new business opportunities.  There will be strong link to both corporate R&D and the site Process Technology Chemist.  Sample coordination between these functions will also need to be managed.
- Follow and ensure adherence of all safety and environmental guidelines for the QC laboratory personnel.
- Conduct annual audits of lab safety policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Provide supervision, leadership, and training to 8 lab technicians and 2 quality assurance chemists to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner to meet internal and external customer requirements.
- Final usage decision on all outbound shipments and internal supplies.
- Bi-annual performance reviews through PD&D process.
- Lab coverage schedule including hiring process as needed.
- Utilize problem solving skills to assist internal and external customers in all areas of quality control.
- Work closely with Process Technology Chemist to provide assistance to both external customers and internal business opportunities
- Outbound sample coordination
- Strong knowledge of SAP (particularly the QC module)
- Maintain certification in all CFR 49 shipping requirements, including necessary IATA and DOT requirements for sample shipments.
- Assist Technical Development Manager on projects such as NIR.
- Set up inspection plans for new products in sap.
- Develop and implement new test methods which increase accuracy and reduce analysis time.
- Support 2017 ALPS Rollout (Akzo Nobel Leading Performance System)
- Other duties as required.

- B.S. in Chemistry.
- Five (5) years’ experience in a manufacturing Quality Control Lab environment.
- Strong HSES commitment.
- Ability to mentor and develop the individuals within the department.
- Practical  knowledge of organic chemistry and industrial chemical processes.
- SAP QM Module Proficiency.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- 50# maximum lifting requirement.
- Experience with statistical quality analysis (SQA), gauge repeatability and reproducibility studies (GRR), instrument calibration methods, development of analyst training/testing programs, SPC/SQC, and capability tools.
- Leadership abilities necessary to take new programs from initial development through implementation.
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers and sales professionals regarding quality issues. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
