- Projects: manage medium sized projects; ensure execution and delivery.
- People Management and Development: Lead, coach, appraise a small team of indirect reports – assigned to a project. Provide feedback to hierarchical manager.
- Experiments: Discuss project needs, set up / plan / execute / coordinate scientific experiments and analysis, interpretation and reporting of results.
- Identify new (scientific) developments & trends and market needs/opportunities, generate new research/development opportunities for own area/domain and share these with other professionals
- Execute trials at key customers acting as R&D lead in order to ensure growth targets are met
- Set timeframes and manage new product development projects within the regional Centre of Excellence R&D Team.
- Use rigorous scientific methodology to accomplish goals.
- Communicate with stakeholders on project status using written and oral presentation methods.
- Methodology/tools: Keep up with relevant research methods and techniques in the field as well as develop, implement and improve existing methods and techniques
- Intellectual property: in collaboration with IP department: Manage & file IP applications to protect own research work; analyze 3rd party IP
- Knowledge development: Keep up with internal and external developments in own field of expertise; ensure transfer and retention of knowledge

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Masters level degree related to Chemistry (preferred) or degree with a minimum of 10 years relevant industrial experience
- 7 + years’ experience in a paints, coatings, inks (or other related industry) laboratory environment
- Proven ability to supervise the work of others
- Detailed knowledge of coatings chemistry / paint technology, RD&I test methods, application techniques and project leadership
- Strong analytic skills and the ability to analyze, organize, summarize and articulate complex projects for decision making
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate in a concise and timely manner
- Strong ‘can-do’ mentality and ‘drive’ to accomplish tasks in an environment with multiple stakeholders and cultures
- Experience in ‘change management
- Effective leadership, interpersonal skills, performance
- Management, and people development skills required
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with clear prioritization and organizational skills
