As such, this is a critical role that requires a business focused senior executive with a sound knowledge of HS&S systems and the legislative framework, as well as a proven track record of driving change in a global environment.
Is this a challenge that matches your profile as a confident, credible and entrepreneurial professional who can drive the continuous improvement of processes, policies and standards as well lead groups of people through an exciting time of massive change?
If you offer this and more, we invite you to apply for the position of

The role and its responsibilities
This is an influential and high profile role based at the AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. From here you develop the company HS&S vision and functional excellence strategy, aligning with the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) LT and company strategy to ensure alignment with the HS&S strategy and regulatory compliance. To be successful in the role you also have experience in the environmental field.
Thus the role requires you to think more than five years ahead as you deliver and embed the transformational change and commitment based culture that will help AkzoNobel to achieve long-term competitive advantage.
This demands that you evaluate organizational design, and identify and initiate improvement opportunities in the HS&S operating model. In doing so you set the agenda for professional development across the HS&S function and you mentor, coach and support senior HS&S leaders to provide world class leadership. You also manage and develop the global HS&S Centre of Expertise.
In addition you lead the development of company level KPIs and report progress to HS&S senior leadership. This requires you to analyze global best practices from within and outside AkzoNobel as you assist regions and/or plants with the consistent implementation of corporate programs.
In terms of advocacy and lobbying you monitor legislative developments that impact AkzoNobel and work with industry groups, customers, regulators and internal teams to ensure a sound outcome to regulatory and business issues.
As required you support acquisitions, divestitures, new product development and other business changes, and you participate in HS&S  audits, as appropriate.
In order to be successful, it is essential that you network with, and influence, key leaders, including business area, ISC and HS&S Directors, BU/SMU manufacturing directors, sustainability leaders and leaders of other key functions.
Finally, you design reports and processes to provide management with timely and relevant information regarding environmental performance, and you prepare and present reports to senior management and the internal and external board of directors.
