- Responsible for conducting routine quality control testing and recordkeeping in a safe, accurate and orderly manner.  These duties include various dry chemical and instrumental analysis of samples for process control and final QC inspection.  The types of analyses include fluidization, impact, gloss, hotplate melt flow, gel time, HOC, color and instrumental particle size analysis among others.  These tests are conducted in accordance with established Corporate test methods and specifications.
- Expected to be capable of making independent decisions and judgements based on experience and knowledge.  Expected to operate with minimal supervision using sound judgement to decide when approval and guidance is required.  QC Operator follows procedures and guidelines as set forth by the plant management and the QC Supervisor.  Plant testing procedures and plant product specifications are the basis for most decisions.  Position does have latitude to service in-plant customers in the best manner possible.
- Position acts independently to help solve production, testing or research problems while keeping Management informed of the scope and progress of activities.  Neatly and accurately records all lab results in accordance with department and ISO procedures, including timely communication of results, problems and priorities to production departments.
- Should act independently and take initiative to solve day-to-day problems as well as take responsibility for the smooth operation of all lab activities.  Provides training, advice and guidance to co-workers as required.  Actively participates in lab training efforts.
- Able to perform all QC testing required by the Reading or Warsaw plant.  Works extensively and independently with sophisticated and expensive laboratory equipment and instruments.  Must be able to act independently to solve equipment and procedural problems by establishing ability to provide trouble-shooting related to instrumental analysis such as gel time, HPMF, film build and particle size determinations.  Maintains proper housekeeping and cleanliness in all work areas.  Maintains routine supplies in work area on each shift worked.  Participates in department calibration activities.
- Safety – Promotes health, safety and environmental regulations by following standards, policies and procedures.  Performs all work safely and injury free. Actively participates in improving department and plant safety performance.  Attends and participates in Reading or Warsaw Plant programs/committees/training as required, such as Department Safety, Plant Safety, Behavioural Safety, Housekeeping Audit Teams, ISO, Life Saving Rules or any other safety programs. Participates in the Reading or Warsaw Safety Journey. Adheres to the Golden Principle which is simply to intervene to stop work if conditions or behaviour are unsafe.
Job Context:
 
Performs Plant laboratory duties including batch judgment decisions. Adheres to Quality management system.  Prepares customer pre-ship requirements.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- High School Diploma, college level science/chemisty preferred up to and including a B.S. degree
- 3-6 years of Powder Coating experience in a QC, Manufacturing or R&D role
- Knowledge of computer application software, Excel, Powerpoint, Word and specialty applications such as On-Color and SAP desirable.
- Ability to use algebra and routine statistics is required.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Working knowledge of SAP R/3.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
- Demonstrates strong customer orientation – understands customer need and demonstrates excellence in serving customers.
- Must have good judgement in reporting errors or unusual conditions or events to lab or plant management.  Must have good judgement in preventing loss of company assets and/or products.
- Strong organization skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; communicates effectively with various employee groups, contractors and management.
- Must have good attention to detail and be able to follow complicated technical instructions such as specifications and ISO procedures as well as proper notebook recording procedures and computer entry. 
- Knowledge of Company policies and procedures.
- Ability to work Shifts.
- Overtime coverage is required, particularly for short-notice absences of other Shift members
- May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, performs sustained manual activities at moderate to heavy levels of exertion.
- May use hand tools and operate fixed and mobile plant equipment.
- Wears personal protective equipment.
- May be required to lift up to 55 lbs. push/pull up to 300 pounds
