One of our Specialty Chemical business units, Pulp and Performance Chemicals (PPC) has an outstanding opportunity for a passionate, experienced professional to assume the role of Production Manager in Augusta, Georgia.  


The Production Manager is responsible for managing the manufacturing processes of the plant. This will be achieved by supporting the overall operations effort to create a culture of functional and operational excellence while delivering leading product to our markets. This position directs, manages and develops teams to meet the objectives and work flow requirements. The Production Manager supports the development of quality processes to meet or exceed customer expectations, and to foster a proactive environment that promotes and ensures product consistency and continuous improvement as well as manage the production assets.


This position reports to the Site Director and directs at least 50% of all personnel in the plant (17-18 operators).


Our Pulp and Performance Chemicals business has long been supplying industries worldwide with quality ingredients that are essential for manufacturing thousands of everyday products. Our pioneering portfolio includes bleaching chemical and systems, colloidal silica solutions, expandable microspheres, and silica packing and columns. You’ll find our essential ingredients in a whole host of products, including tissues, diapers, packaging, shoe soles, automotive coatings and sealants, decorative paints and coatings, smartphones, champagne corks, concrete, wallpaper, batteries, LED lamps, and pharmaceuticals. We work with industrial customers all over the world who count on our trusted and reliable brands, such as Eka, Expancel, Kromasil and Levasil Colloidal Silica.


This position will have the following responsibilities:
Manage Production -- Managing production of one or more plants


Provide direction – within the production teams in terms of how the team’s contributions support and impact the customer.
 
Live the culture - Support site effort to create a culture of functional and operational excellence, continuous improvement, accountability, professionalism and commitment to company values and behaviors by implementing DO) standard CoE processes.
 
Lead Performance and Delivery -- Plan, lead, organize & control the delivery (ready to serve) of production’s contribution to sites objectives and overall performance (in terms of safety, reliability, productivity, service, cost, quality and material/eco-efficiency and community stewardship) and provide insights regarding developments based on analysis. Actively participate in Continuous Improvement efforts in Augusta. Acting as a Gatekeeper and manage production assets.
 
Manage Hazards -- Look for and respond effectively to hazards in safety, health, security and environment, taking account of people, plant, and procedures and provide insights regarding developments based on analyses. Ensure compliance in all aspects of safety with all applicable regulations (AkzoNobel and regulatory). Actively participate in BBS program in Augusta.
 
Build organization - Be a role model in talent management through developing a strong talent bench for key positions in the production unit, enhancing talent development and engagement levels.
Set example -- Walk the talk by living the AkzoNobel values and working across Functions and sites to drive the overall AN strategy for improved and leading performance for our stakeholders.
 
Communicate strategy -- Ensure Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) strategy is cascaded to the plant/production organization effectively to ensure appropriate alignment of focus and relevant information and issues are fed back up.
 
 
- As a member of the site management team, contribute to the formulation of site objectives from an production perspective and ensure site capabilities, constraints and HSE considerations are incorporated into the site plan              
- Lead an operational excellence agenda by coaching & teaching functional excellence in all areas while achieving sustainable improvement in the safety, reliability, productivity, quality and eco-efficiency of the production or plant operations
- Establish performance standards for production and lead continuous improvement
- Implement (DO) (ALPS) and standard CoE processes for site consistent with the agreed ISC functional excellence agenda           
- Develop individual team members and build a team which collectively is capable of and fully involved in achieving the task. Also establish and enforce minimum personal performance level within Production
- Manage human resources, stimulate talent management and identify and select talents with growth potential
- Design, install and safely manage assets
- Produce and effectively use materials and services
- Network with other production managers at site and inside AkzoNobel to develop knowledge, experience and leverage best practice
- Works in close cooperation with senior process engineer, Continuous Improvement Manager (CIM) and the Maintenance & Facility Manager to ensure optimized performance of the site

Job requirements/Candidate profile

REQUIRED:
BS degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Chemistry with minimum 5+ years’ experience in chemical manufacturing leading/supervising production employees
Experience with direct reports, to recruit and conduct performance appraisals
Excellent written communication skills
Effective communicator with all levels of the organization (employees, managers, customers)
Must be able to work in a team oriented environment
Effective leadership, interpersonal skills, performance management, and people development skills
Ability to creatively solve problems while maintaining a timely and cost effective approach
Good organizational and analytical skills
Ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with clear prioritization and organizational skills
Strong culture and mindset in HSE


DESIRED:
Advanced level skills on Asset Integrity and Management
Experience in Continuous Improvement, L6S Project Methodology
Production Planning and Scheduling
Advanced level computer skills (i.e. spreadsheets, Microsoft Office, SAP system) to prepare statistical reports
