Responsibility

Lead the development of new technology formulations that will make a difference to a leading global organization

AkzoNobel’s business area Decorative Paints adds color to people’s lives with a full range of interior and exterior decoration and protection products for the trade and consumer markets. As authorities on color we aim to provide all our customers – from professional decorators to DIY enthusiasts – with a great color experience and a fantastic finish. Our range includes paints, lacquers and varnishes, as well as products for surface preparation (pre-deco products).

Decorative Paints operates an advanced and well-resourced R&D capability at Sassenheim in the Netherlands, staffed by a multinational and highly engaged team. This capability incorporates an Expertise Research Group (ERG) that develops new paint technology concepts for the global market.

ERG includes an Exterior Woodcare team which develops new technologies and solutions for our Woodcare businesses throughout the world. Woodcare products are mainly used to decorate and protect wood used on housing (cladding, doors and window frames) and in gardens (fences, decks). Our portfolio includes respected brands such as Sikkens, Pinotex, Cuprinol and Xyladecor.

Within this context, your mission in this role is to act as the principle project leader for technical
development projects in the Woodcare team, operating within the boundaries of well-established innovation processes.

Is this a challenge that matches your profile as a result- and client-focused research professional with a powerful combination of people and project management skills? Do you have the commitment to develop a thorough understanding of woodcare? Can you act as a knowledgeable partner for marketing, commercial and scientific partners as well as working closely together with our legal team? Above all, can you make a real difference within our dynamic, multinational and multicultural business environment?

If you offer all this and more we invite you to apply for the role of

Team Leader R&D

The role and its responsibilities
Working from the laboratory in Sassenheim you lead the development of innovative functional (biocidal) woodcare formulations that can be initiated by both market pull and R&D push.

This requires you to effectively manage the expertise, resources, and people within the team. You also manage relationships with stakeholders and act as an expertise coordinator, keeping in touch with research institutes and external suppliers and expanding (y)our network inside and outside AkzoNobel.

All of this demands the excellent communication skills necessary to motivate team members and advise others and reporting on the progress of projects and results.

At all times you seek to develop and maintain a thorough technical understanding of challenges and needs.

Needless to say, you ensure that all work is carried out according to AkzoNobel HSE standards.
