AkzoNobel Coatings Inc. has an opening for a Technician. The work location for this position will be in Columbus, Ohio.

Purpose / Key Objective of the Position:

The Technician will be part of the Product Support team for Coil & Extrusion Coatings group North America. This group supports production, sales, marketing, and technical service areas by way of weathering studies, performance testing, and analytical lab work. The candidate will contribute to the program through standard testing of coatings on thousands of coated panels annually, data entry, analytical sample preparation, and reporting of results. The candidate will also help to manage the large panel inventory stored onsite in Columbus.

The Technician must be highly organized, self-motivated and able to work independently when given clear and distinct instruction. Technicians must be able to communicate technical information clearly in both written and oral formats, and keep up-to-date detailed records on all work underway. A successful candidate has a desire to seek and understand coatings fundamentals, including further understanding of performance and durability capabilities within the metal coatings industry.

The Product Support group assists with production issue resolution therefore, an ability to work well under tight deadlines with minimal supervision is necessary. The Technician needs to possess solid computer skills, the ability to stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.

This is a salaried, non-exempt position.

Typical Responsibilities:

Conform with all site and laboratory safety requirements and policies
Support work directed by Product Support Lead
Maintain all documents associated with the duties of a Technician
Participate in a variety of interdepartmental initiatives
Create, support, and distribute reports both written and verbally
Preparation and delivery of quarterly status presentations are required
Proactive with ISO regulations and 5S initiatives

Degree in a scientific discipline, or 2-5 years experience in chemistry or coatings
Must demonstrate proficiency in basic algebra and statistics
Must demonstrate ability to communicate in both written and spoken English
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Access programs

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and/or Coatings or Polymer Science
Basic coatings knowledge and proven lab work experience
Paint application, testing, and failure analysis experience
Paint performance, durability, and weathering knowledge
Proven record of organization and efficiency
